Product Description

This is the fourth and last coin coloured 2 Euro coin of the series of special coins that Latvia has issued highlighting its four provinces. The first special 2 Euro coin was issued in 2016 û Vidzeme. Letgale and Kurzeme followed in 2017 and this series ended in 2018 with the province of Zemgale. This special 2 Euro coin has as its theme the province Zemgale. The Latvian Province of Zemgale lies in the south of Latvia and is largely bordered by Lithuania. Zemgale has an area of approximately 10,700 km2 and has almost 300,000 inhabitants. The capital of Zemgale is Jelgava and Zemgale has traditionally been closely linked to the region of Koerland. On this coloured 2 Euro coin is the coat of arms of Zemgale, a silver coloured Reindeer with a blue background. Above the coat of arms the country name Latvija (Latvia) is coloured white and the province name Zemgale, under the coat of arms, is also coloured white. On the right side of the coin the year 2018 is coloured red. The colours of the country name, province name and the year together again form the national colours of Latvia. The edge lettering of the coin is DIEVS * SVETI * LATVIJU (God Bless Latvia). The coin is packaged in a plastic coin capsule.
