Product Description
This is the fourth and last coin of the series of special 2 Euro coins with the subject of its four provinces that Latvia has issued. The first special 2 Euro coin was issued in 2016 (Vidzeme). Letgale and Kurzeme followed in 2017 and the series ended in 2018 with the province of Zemgale. This special heavily silvered 2 Euro coin has as its theme the province Zemgale. The Latvian Province of Zemgale lies in the south of Latvia and is largely bordered by Lithuania. Zemgale has an area of approximately 10,700 sq.km. and has almost 300,000 inhabitants. The capital of Zemgale is Jelgava and Zemgale has traditionally been closely linked to the province of Courland. On this silver-plated coin the coat of arms of Zemgale, a grey coloured Reindeer with a blue background, is depicted. Above the coat of arms is the country name Latvija (Latvia) and under the coat of arms the province name Zemgale is shown. On the right side of the coin is the year 2018. The edge lettering of the coin is DIEVS * SVETI * LATVIJU (God Ble ss Latvia). This heavily silver-plated coin is packaged in a plastic coin capsule.
