Latvia 5 Euro 2016 Janis Rozentals

Janis Rozentals was a famous painter from Latvia. In the year 2016, it was 150 years since Janis Rozentals was born and to commemorate this Latvia has issued a unique coin. Janis Rozentals came from a poor family and first started working as a house painter. He took the chance to develop as an artist and had a æpost-impressionismÆ form of painting. He was inspired by Italian and French art forms from that time, but still had his own style. Janis Rozentals lived only to 40 years old. As a reminder of the 150th birth day of Janis Rozentals, Latvia has issued a unique rectangular coin of no less than 80 x 38 mm in size! On the face of the coin is a picture of a painting of a rich lady with a monkey, from the year 1913. The reverse of the coin looks like the frame of the painting. The signature of Janis Rozentals is also depicted. Also, the logo / stamp of the Latvian National Art Museum is shown. Because this unique coin is legal tender in Latvia the value of 5 Euro is displayed.
