Product Description
This special 5 Euro coin is worthy of the celebration of the 100 year old Republic of Latvia in 2018. This special coin is, in principle, only available to the residents of Latvia itself, but we have been able to buy a limited number of copies! The Republic of Latvia was founded on 18 November 1918. Despite the fact that it was also a satellite state of Russia for a long time, it did retain its own identity. The use of the Coat of Arms was forbidden during the Russian occupation, but was immediately reinstated in 1990. On the face of the coin are the Coats of Arms / Crests of the four Latvian Provinces. On the Crest of Zemgale a silver-coloured reindeer is depicted against a blue background. On the Coat of Arms of Kurzeme is a Red Lion against a silver background. On the crest of Vidzeme a Griffin is displayed against a Red background. The Coat of Arms of Latgale is also a Griffin but set against a blue background. The Griffin of Vidzeme is mirrored in relation to the Griffin of Latgale. A griffin is a mythical creature with the head of an Eagle a body of a Lion, with Horse ears and a ærooster combÆ. At the bottom of the coin is the value indication of 5 Euro. On the reverse of the coin the Coat of Arms of Latvia is depicted, showing a Lion on the left and a griffin on the right. At the top there are three stars and oak leaves are also shown. The representation of the sun is located centrally on the crest. At the bottom of the coin is the logo of 100 years of Latvia and the coloured Latvian flag. Furthermore, the years 1918 and 2018 are shown. The coin is presented in a luxurious package and is delivered with a certificate of authenticity.
