Lithuania 10 Euro 2019 Ice Fisching

Ice fishing is a popular hobby in Lithuania. During the harsh winters in Lithuania the fishermen go to the lakes and cut holes in the ice. They beat rhythmically with a hammer on a piece of wood (a plank) that is far below the ice and the fish are attracted by these vibrations. The fish then swim towards the location of the vibrations, but the fishermen have put a large net under the ice-hole. 99% of fish are caught by this method. Often the fishermen have also cut an extra hole where they try to catch a fish with bait on a hook. It is very special to see that people are practising this hobby, lots of people are seen sitting on chairs on the ice, trying to catch as many fish as possible! Often these people also drink a glass of vodka while fishing, which they find very tasty. On the reverse of the coin two hands wearing thick gloves are shown rhythmically hitting a wooden plank. In addition, the hole in the ice, along with three fish that have already been caught, are shown. Furthermore, the country name Lietuva (Lithuania) is visible at the top of the coin. The value indication of 10 Euro is also shown. When looking very closely, the coat of arms of Lithuania is visible in the icicles. On the face of the coin a net which is situated in the hole in the ice in order to catch the fish is depicted. The fish that are pictured within the net are beautifully coloured.
