Product Description
The 10 Euro coin of Lithuania 2020 has the theme 'Tree beekeeping'. In Eastern Europe honey is still made, by some beekeepers, in the traditional way - these people are called 'zeidlers'. A nesting place is carved out of a tree at a height between six and eight metres, which is closed with a plank at the back. In this way the zeidlers hope to create an environment that is as favourable and natural as possible for the bees. The nests are checked twice a year and in the spring the left half is cut away so that the honey is extracted. The right half contains enough food to ensure the survival of the bee colony. The face of the coin features a stylized Vytis, the coat of arms of Lithuania. Part of a honeycomb is also shown. Furthermore, the year of issue, 2020, the value of 10 Euro and the mintmark of the Lithuanian mint are shown. On the reverse of the coin a Zeidler is depicted harvesting honey from a tree cavity. The zeidler has covered his head with a beekeeping veil and a swarm of bees is seen flying. The text 'DREVINE BITININKYSTE' (tree beekeeping) is also shown. This coin is presented in a beautiful, luxurious, case and comes with a certificate of authenticity. The circulation of the coin is only 2,500 copies.
