Lithuania 2 Euro 2020 Aukstaitija

Aukstaitija (Upper Lithuania) is one of the five ethnographic regions of Lithuania. Aukstaitija, which is located in the northeast of Lithuania, is the largest region in the country. This region also covers a small part of Latvia and Belarus. The mainly Lithuanian people living in this region speak a special Lithuanian dialect. A small group of Russians and Belarusians live in this region of Lithuania. The most famous nature reserve in this region is the Aukstaitija National Park. The park is over 400 square kilometres and consists mainly of lakes and pine forests. It is a unique piece of nature where the flora and fauna is almost untouched. The coat of arms of Aukstaitija is depicted on the face of the coin. This crest shows a mounted knight on a shield that is held by two angels. On a ribbon below the shield is the text 'PATRIAM TUAM MUNDUM EXISTIMA' (Your Homeland is the World). Under this ribbon is the mint mark of the Lithuanian mint and the name of the region 'Aukstaitija'. At the top of the coin is the year of issue, 2020, and the country name 'LIETUVA'(Lithuania). The coin is packaged in a printed coin holder.
