Product Description

Aukstaitija (Upper Lithuania) is one of the five ethnographic regions of Lithuania. Aukstaitija is located in the northeast of Lithuania. It is the largest region in the country which also covers a small part of Latvia and Belarus. The mainly Lithuanian people living in this region speak a special Lithuanian dialect. A small group of Russians and Belarusians also live in this region. The most famous nature reserve in this region is the Aukstaitija National Park. The park is over 400 square kilometres and consists mainly of lakes and pine forests. It is a unique piece of nature where the flora and fauna is almost untouched. Aukstaitija's coat of arms is depicted on the face of the coin. A knight on a horse is depicted on a shield which is supported by two angels, below which, on a scroll, is the text 'PATRIAM TUAM MUNDUM EXISTIMA' (Your Homeland is the World). Beneath this scroll is the mintmark of the Lithuanian mint together with the name of the region, Aukstaitija. At the top of the coin is the year of issue, 2020, and the country name LIETUVA (Lithuania). The coin is mounted in a Coin card.
