Lithuania 2 Euro 2020 Hill of Crosses

Lithuania has issued its second 2 Euro coin of 2020. The theme of this coin is 'The Hill of Crosses' (Kryziu kalnas). This international pilgrimage site is located more than 10 kilometres from Siauliai and has been visited by pilgrims for over 200 years. Several times the crosses were removed by the Russians but the Lithuanian population kept placing them again, time after time. In 1993 Pope John Paul II visited 'The Hill of Crosses' and since then it has been seen as a place for peace, love and hope. Everyone is free to place crosses here because the hill is located in a place that nobody owns! The estimate of the number of crosses varies between 100,000 and 1 million! On the face of the coin a number of crosses are depicted on 'The Hill of Crosses'. In addition, the current year, 2020, and the country name, LIETUVA (Lithuania), are displayed. The coin is packaged in a printed coin holder.
