Product Description
The year 2017 is an important year for many faithful Lithuanians. Not only for the Lithuanians, but also for Belarus, the Czech Republic, Poland, Russia and Ukraine. It is namely 500 years ago that the Bible was translated into Ruthene, the language spoken in these areas. In the Middle Ages, the Bible was translated into the different languages spoken in Europe. The Lithuanian Francysk Skaryna translated the Bible into Ruthene in the year 1517, and to commemorate this, Lithuania has issued a special 20 Euro coin. On the face of the coin the cover of the original Ruthenian Bible is depicted. Only 23 copies of this Bible have been preserved. The text æPranciskaus Skorinos Ruseniskoji BiblijaÆ with the number 500 below is shown below the Bible. On the reverse of the coin another part of this bible is shown with a number of decorations with, in the centre, Vytis the symbol of Lithuania. Furthermore, the country name Lietuva (Lithuania) appears on the top with the value indication of 20 Euro vertically on the left and the year 2017 on the right. The coin is presented in luxury packaging and is delivered with a certificate.
