Product Description
2021 Luxembourg 2.50 Euro coin 'Casemates of Luxembourg'. Luxembourg has issued a 2.50 Euro coin that honours this underground defence belt. Luxembourg has been occupied by many countries and the underground complex was built by, among others, Belgian, Austrian, Dutch and French engineers. The first Casemates were built around the year 1645 by the Spaniards. The Casemates eventually became 23 kilometres long and almost 40 metres deep! Because these underground complexes are located in the middle of the city, they were partly dismantled in 1867 but they could not be completely destroyed. The underground complex is still more than 17 kilometres long today! Depicted on the face of the coin is a part of these Casemates. Furthermore, the value indication of 2.50 Euro and the country name 'Luxembourg' are shown. On the reverse of the coin Grand Duke Henri is portrayed looking to the right. The country name 'Lëtzebuerg' and the year 2021 are also shown vertically. The coin is presented in a beautiful luxury packaging in which the coin is described in more detail. The mintage of this unique coin is just 2,500 copies.
