Product Description

It is 100 years since the population of Luxembourg were granted the right to vote. The people were able to vote for the first time at the Luxembourg parliamentary elections of 1919, which were the first elections after the First World War (1914 to 1918). These elections were won by the conservative Roman Catholic party called Pari de la Droite. This meant that the liberals were no longer in power, a unique phenomenon in Luxembourg. To commemorate the fact that the Luxembourg population has had the right to vote for 100 years, it has been decided to issue a special 2 Euro coin. On the face of the coin Grand Duke Henri is portrayed looking diagonally to the right. At the top is the text 'Centenaire du suffrage-universel' (Centenary of General Voting Rights). A hand is also shown depositing a ballot in the ballot box. The years 1919-2019 are displayed above this ballot paper. At the bottom of the coin the country name LUXEMBOURG appears. This is the 2019 Luxembourg 2 Euro '100 Year Voting Rights' Coincard. To the left of the year 2019 is the 'Servaasbrug' (Servaas Bridge), which is the mint mark of the Dutch Mint master - Mr. Satin. To the right of the year 2019 is the Dutch Mercury staff which indicates that the coin is minted in the Netherlands. Only 7,500 coins were minted with the 'Servaasbrug' mint mark! The coin is mounted in a luxury Coincard.
