Product Description

Prince Henri of Orange-Nassau was a son of King Willem II of the Netherlands. Prince Henri had a long career in the navy and is the only one of the Orange-Nassau family who visited the Dutch colony of the Dutch East Indies at the time. He became governor of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg in 1850, where his brother King William III had appointed him. He lived alternately in the Netherlands and Luxembourg, but in his later years Prince Henri lived mainly in Luxembourg, loved by the people and by the seafarers. Prince Henri was born 200 years ago, in Soestdijk Palace (near Utrecht, Netherlands), which is why Luxembourg has decided to issue a special 2 Euro coin. The coin features portraits of Prince Henri of Orange-Nassau and the current Grand Duke Henri. His name 'Prince Henri d'Orange-Nassau' is shown in an arc on the left. The years of his birth and death (1820-1879) are shown centrally. At the bottom of the coin are the country name, Luxembourg, and the year of issue, 2020. To the left of the year is the Servaasbrug (Servaas Bridge) which is the mint mark of the Dutch Mint Master, De Heer Satijn. To the right of the year the Dutch Mercury staff is shown which indicates that the coin has been minted in the Netherlands. Only 7,500 coins have been struck with the Servaasbrug mint mark. The coin is packed in a luxurious Coincard.
