Product Description
Luxembourg 2 Euro 2021 Grand Duke Jean with Mintmark Photo. This is the Luxembourg 2 Euro 2021 'Grand Duke Jean of Luxembourg' (Jean de Luxembourg) Photo Variant with the Mint Master's mark. Jean was Grand Duke of Luxembourg from 1964 to 2000. Jean of Luxembourg was born in the castle of Colmar-Berg and was the eldest son of Grand Duchess Charlotte. On 9th April, 1953, he married Princess Josephine Charlotte and had five children. Jean of Luxemburg was an officer in the army and witnessed the liberation of Brussels in early September 1944. He received multiple military awards in his life and lived to be a whopping 98 years old! To commemorate the 100th anniversary of Jean van Luxemburg's birth, on 5th January, 1921 Luxembourg has decided to issue a special 2 Euro coin. On the face of the coin is a portrait of Jean together with his son, Grand Duke Henri. Furthermore, the text 'GROUSSHERZOGE VU LËTZEBUERG' (Grand Duke of Luxembourg) is shown along with the year of issue, 2021. At the bottom left of the coin is the Servaasbrug, which is the mintmark of the Dutch Mint Master Mr. Satijn. At the bottom right of the coin is the Dutch 'Staff of Mercury', which indicates that the coin was minted in the Netherlands. This Photo variant of the coin with the M int Master mark is only found in half of the BU sets, thus there are only 2,500 copies of this coin.
