Luxembourg 5 Euro 2021 Sand Lizard - Lacerta Agilis

On the 2021 Luxembourg 5 Euro coin 'Lacerta Agilis' (Sand lizard) is depicted. It is one of the best known species of lizard found in parts of Asia and parts of Europe. The sand lizard mainly eats insects and likes to be among dense shrubs. The sand lizard can be found in low-lying areas as well as in the mountains, up to 3500 metres high! The sand lizard has a length of up to 22 centimetres and can live to be about 10 years old. The main enemies are different kinds of birds, hedgehogs, martens and snakes. In addition, sand lizards are cannibalistic and eat their own, smaller congeners.
