Malta 1 + 2 + 5 Cent 2018

These are the 1, 2 and 5 cent coins of Malta 2018. On these coins the altar of the Mnajdra temple is depicted. The Mnajdra temples are one of the best preserved megalithic temples in Malta. The temple actually consists of three temples that were built at different times: the northern temple from 3600 BC (BC is now known as BCE æbefore the common eraÆ), the middle around 3150 BC and the southern temple around 2500 BC. The shape of the temple resembles a cloverleaf with walls consisting of two parallel walls at a distance of two metres apart . Some of the megalithic limestone blocks are more than 6 metres high! Below the image of the altar of the Mnajdra temple the country name Malta is printed with the year 2018 under it. In the lower star of the coin (at the 6 o'clock position) the letter æFÆ is shown . This denotes that these 2018 Maltese coins are struck in France.
