Product Description

The theme of this 2017 special 2 Euro coin from Malta is the Hagar Qim temples. It is the second 2 Euro coin in this series of seven that will be issued by Malta from 2016 to 2022. The subject of this series is the Maltese prehistoric monuments. The theme of this coin, the second in the series, is the Hagar Qim temples near Qrendi in Malta. Qrendi is located in southern Malta and the temples are located on a hill overlooking the island of Filfla, the southernmost point of Malta. The Hagar Qim temples are one of the largest stone monuments in the world. They are also one of the oldest free-standing megaliths (stone monuments) in the world (3,600 - 3,200 BC). The temples are listed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. In the middle of the face of the coin is an image of the Hagar Qim temples. Above the image is the text Hagar Qim Temples and the years 3600 - 3200 BC. The outer ring of the coin shows the 12 stars of Europe. This special coin is packed in a beautiful Coincard. Special about this coin is that the co in is struck with a Mintmark, the so-called Horn of Cornucopia. This coin-sign is displayed left of the year. The issue of this Coincard is limited to 30,000 copies, which means that only these 30,000 coins have been struck with the coin-sign Horn of Cornucopia.
