Product Description

The 2019 Maltese 2 Euro coin has the theme the 'Ta 'Hagrat' temples. It is the fourth coin in the series of seven special 2 Euro coins that Malta is issuing from 2016 to 2022. The subject of this series is the Maltese prehistoric monuments. The Ta 'Hagrat temples in Mgarr are one of the oldest temples in Malta and date from the Ggantija period. This period was approximately 3600 to 3200 BC (now known as BCE - before the common era). To build the temple of Ta 'Hagrat coralline limestone was used, this type of stone belongs to the oldest type of stone found on the surface of the Maltese islands. The temple complex consists of a total of three temples. The smaller of the temples is adjacent to the larger temple on the north side. In comparison with the other temples in Malta these buildings can be called relatively small. The most extraordinary find of all time is a scale model of this temple. It can be concluded from this that careful thought had been given to the construction of this impressive temple. On this coloured 2 Euro coin is an image of the entrance to the Ta 'Hagrat temples. On the top right of the coin is the text 'TA HAGRAT TEMPLES' underneath which are the dates 3600 - 3000 BC. The 12 stars of Europe are shown in the outer ring of the coin. At the bottom of the coin is the country name MALTA with the year 2019. This coloured 2 Euro coin is packed in a coin capsule.
