Product Description

The theme of the 2 Euro of Malta 2020 is the 'Ta 'Skorba' temples. It is the fifth coin in the series of seven special 2 Euro coins that Malta issues from 2016 to 2022. The subject of this series of coins is the Maltese prehistoric monuments. The Ta 'Skorba temples date from the Ggantija phase, around 3600 BCE (BC), and are one of the older temples known to Malta. These temples are not in good condition because the excavations only took place in 1960. New and better techniques have now been used than those used in earlier excavations, during which a small terracotta female statue was also found. Two types of pottery have been found in the temples, namely grey pottery with little decoration, and red pottery which is more spoon-shaped and contains a red slip layer. This 2020 Maltese 2 Eurocoin shows an image of the Ta 'Skorba temples. At the top of the coin is the text 'SKORBA TEMPLES' (Ta 'Skorba temples) and the years 3600-2500 BC, the time when the temples were in use. The terracotta statue is depicted at the bottom of the coin, with the year of issue 2020 and the country name Malta on the right. Only 20,000 coins with mint mark have been minted! This coin, as described, is mounted in a beautiful Coincard.
