Product Description

This coloured 2 Euro from Malta 2020 has the theme of the 'Ta 'Skorba' temples. It is the fifth coin in the series of seven special 2 Euro coins to be issued by Malta from 2016 to 2022. The subject of this series of 2 Euro coins is the Maltese prehistoric monuments. The Ta 'Skorba temples are one of the older temples in Malta and date from the Ggantija phase, this phase was around 3600 BCE (Before the Common Era - formerly known as BC, Before Christ). The Ta 'Skorba temples are not in good condition but because the excavations took place only in 1960, new and better techniques could be used than those used in earlier excavations. During these excavations a small Terracotta statue of a woman was also found. Two types of pottery have also been found in the Ta 'Skorba temples namely, grey pottery with little decoration and red pottery which is more spoon-shaped and contains a red slip layer. On this coloured 2020 Maltese 2 Euro coin is an image of the Ta 'Skorba temples, at the top of the coin the is text 'SKORBA TEMPLES' (Ta' Skorba temples) and 3600-2500 BCE (BC), the time in which the temples were used. The Terracotta statue can be seen at the bottom of the coin along with the year of issue, 2020, and the country name, Malta, on the right. This coloured 2 Euro coin is packed in a coin capsule.
