Product Description

Malta is issuing a series of seven BU sets with the subject of the Maltese Prehistoric Monuments. The subject of the 2021 Malta 2021 BU set are the 'Megalithic Temples of Tarxien'. The Tarxien temples are one of the older temples in Malta and the earliest temple dates from the Ggantija phase, this phase was about 3600 BC (now BCE). The other temples of the complex were built during the Tarxien phase, between 3600 and 3200 BC, after which the temples are named. The temples were discovered in the year 1914 when farmers tried to plough their land around forests, but each time encountered hard stones. Under the direction of the geologist Themistocles Zammit, the entire complex was then excavated. Since the year 1980 the Tarxien Temples are on the UNESCO World Heritage List. This beautifully illustrated 2021 Maltese BU set contains the complete series of 2021 Maltese Euro coins. As an extra coin the 2021 special 2 Euro coin 'Tarxien Temples' is packaged in this set. This series of coins are minted in France which can be seen from the letter 'F' that can be seen in the lower star of the coins. The edition of the set is only 11,000 copies.
