Monaco 2 Euro 2022 'Prince Albert I'. (Prince) Albert I Honorius Karel Grimaldi, born 13th November 1848, was Prince of Monaco from 10th September 1889 to 26th June 1922. Prince Albert I of Monaco was fascinated by science and sought answers by taking the theories of Darwin and Bernard very seriously. He carried out many scientific experiments and, among other things, mapped out how deep the ocean was on certain shipping routes. He was responsible for the construction of many buildings, including the 'Lycée de Monaco', 'Hôtel du Gouvernement' and he also modernized the well-known harbour enormously. He also organized the first Monte Carlo Rally, which was won by the Frenchman Henri Rougier. Prince Albert I was loved by his people and caused a gigantic development in Monaco. To honour the 100th anniversary of the his death it has been decided to issue a special 2 Euro coin. On the face of the coin is an image of Prince Albert I dressed in his army uniform. Furthermore, his name Albert I, the country name Monaco, and the year of issue 2022, are displayed. The coin is presented in a beautiful case and is supplied with a certificate of authenticity. The mintage is only 15,000 copies.
