Product Description
This is the sixth and last 2.5 Euro coin from the series of Ethnographic coins that Portugal has issued in recent years. The theme of this sixth coin is the Granaries of the North Western Iberian Peninsula. This area is the north of Portugal and the North-West of Spain. Standing in this area are the unique barns for storing grains and corn. The special feature of these barns are the round stones that can be seen at the bottom of the barns. These are meant to make it impossible for vermin such as mice and rats to get at the food. This kind of granaries are also seen in the Lötschendal in Wallis in Switzerland. On the face of the coin a number of Granaries are depicted where the Crosses on the front and back of the Granaries are characteristic. At the top of the coin is the word Espigueiros (Granaries) with two Maize cobs. At the bottom of the coin are the words Noroeste Peninsular (North West Iberian Peninsula). On the reverse of the coin is again a Granary next to which is the Coat of Arms of Portugal. At the bottom of the coin is the year 2018, the country name Portugal and the value indication of 2.5 Euro.
