Portugal 2 Euro 2019 Madeira Coloured

It has been 600 years since Tristão Vaz Teixeira, Bartolomeu Perestrelo and João Gonçalves Zarco discovered Madeira and Porto Santo. Prince Hendrik called the best sea navigators and cartographers together in an attempt to discover more land towards the West African coast. When Madeira was discovered in 1419 there was a lot of forest on the island (laurel). Because of the strategic location of the island Prince Hendrik immediately ordered colonization. The first settlers arrived in Madeira around 1419. Nowadays Madeira is seen as a flower island where many indigenous species occur exclusively on the island. The Madeira geranium (Geranium maderense) is a beautiful plant that grows exceptionally well in Madeira.
