Portugal 5 Euro 2017 Iron and Glass

In the framework of the Europaster (Europa Star) program, Portugal has issued a special 5 euro coin. Various euro countries issue such a coin. In the year 2017, the era of iron and glass is the theme and this era began in the 19th century. New materials such as iron and glass were used both artistically and architecturally. On the face of the coin is the entrance of the former Cristal Palace in Porto. This building was built in the year 1865 for the world exhibition of that time. It was mainly built of Granite, Iron and Glass. In the year 1956 this building was already demolished. In the outer ring of the coin is the text æIdade do Ferro e Do VidroÆ (Era of Iron and Glass). At the bottom of the coin the value of 5 Euro and the year 2017 are shown. On the reverse of the coin are the large and small Europa Star. In the centre of the coin is a small image of the entrance of the Cristal Palace in Porto. Furthermore the country name of Portugal and the Portuguese coat of arms are shown.
