Product Description
On 11 November 1918 at 11 o'clock in the morning the Armistice was signed by Germany which brought the First World War to an end. To commemorate this important date in World History and to remember the millions of victims of this cruel war, Portugal has issued a special coin with a nominal value of 5 Euro. On the face of the coin the famous symbol of the First World War, the Poppy, is depicted. Nobody understood why this flower grew so luxuriant on the battlefields. The answer is that the ground was swollen by the battles and the poppy thrived on this ground. Above the Poppy is the text Armisticio (Armistice) and at the bottom are the numbers 11.11.11 together with the year 1918. At the top on the reverse of the coin is the coat of arms of Portugal with the value indication of 5 Euro below. On the left are the country name Portugal whilst on the right is the year 2018.
