Product Description

The Tuberaria Major (one of a species of plants in the 'rockrose' family) is a small perennial with yellow flowers. It is a species that occurs along the coast of the Algarve. Because more and more building is taking part in these areas this flower is fast disappearing. It is therefore on the list of endangered plant species. It is a small plant that has leaves about 2 to 5 cm long. The leaves are only 1-2 cm wide! The Tuberaria Major has a red spot in the middle which attracts the bees and wasps. The Tuberaria Major falls under the rock plants category and this plant therefore needs very little water. It can survive in the dry and warm climate of Portugal but, on the other hand, blooms for months in full splendour. On the face of the coin are a number of Tuberaria Majors beautifully displayed, one of which is in full bloom. The flower is clearly depicted. The text 'ALCAR-DO-ALGARVE' (the area where the flower is found) along with the name of the beautiful flower 'Tuberaria Major'. On the reverse side of the coin are also a number of Tuberaria Majors on a mountain. The country name Portugal together with the year 2019 and the value indication of 5 Euro are also displayed. The coin is packed in a printed coin holder.
