Product Description

2021 Portugal 5 Euro 'Japanese Lacquer'. In the year 1543, three Portuguese arrived on the island of Tanegashima in Japan. They were the first Europeans to ever come into contact with the 'Land of the Rising Sun'. From that time onwards the Portuguese had an immensely good relationship with the Japanese and they exchanged a lot of artistry and art with each other. Japanese Lacquerware, called Urushi, were works that the Portuguese loved. No fewer than five layers of lacquer were applied to wooden objects, creating beautiful works of art. The face of the coin shows a Portuguese sailing ship braving the sea. Typical Japanese houses and the text 'ARTE DA LACA' (Lacquerware) are also shown. On the reverse of the coin is a beautiful bonsai tree. The value indication of 5 Euro, the year of issue, 2021, and the country name 'Portugal' are also shown. The coin is packed in a printed coin holder.
