Product Description
This year it is 350 years ago that one of the greatest painters in Dutch history, Rembrandt van Rijn, died. Rembrandt van Rijn came from a simple family, his father was a miller. Rembrandt made around 300 paintings, 300 etchings and 2000 drawings in his life. While he never travelled to Italy, his works were strongly influenced by Caravaggio. This is in contrast to many other well-known painters who went to Italy to develop their skills. Apparently Rembrandt was able to visualize and enrich the lessons on the canvas by hearing stories. The most famous painting that Rembrandt van Rijn produced is the 'Night Watch' which is now in the Rijksmuseum (national museum) in Amsterdam. The painting was originally called "The Company of Frans Banning Cock and Lieutenant Willem van Ruytenburgh getting ready to march out". On the face of this beautiful 10 Euro coin is a depiction of a self-portrait of Rembrandt van Rijn. The value indication of 10 Euro is also displayed. The year of his death, 1669, and the year 2019 are also shown. The reverse of the coin shows San Marino's coat of arms encircled by the text 'REPUBBLICA DI SAN MARINO'. The coin has been struck in the highest quality - proof. Only 3,500 of these coins have been minted!
