San Marino 2 Euro 2019 Leonardo Da Vinci

Leonardo da Vinci (1452-1519) is one of the most famous people of antiquity who was known as a true genius, he died 500 years ago. Leonardo da Vinci was a painter, writer, physicist, chemist, engineer, philosopher, inventor, architect and so on! Leonardo da Vinci painted a lot but did not finish many of his works. Of the works that he did finish, the best-known paintings are the Mona Lisa and The Last Supper. The Vitruvian Man is seen as the symbol of humanism in which man is represented as the centre of the universe. Leonardo da Vinci developed this and it is even shown on the Italian 1 Euro coin. Some of his inventions are a ball bearing, a machine gun, a parachute, a diving suit, a tank and in 1495 he sketched the first robot! In the year 2019 it is 500 years ago that Leonardo da Vinci died and to commemorate this San Marino has issued a special 2 Euro coin. On the face of the coin the face of a kneeling angel, holding the mantle of Jesus, is depicted. This is a detail of the work Baptism of Christ which was painted by Leonardo da Vinci in 1475. In an arc around the coin is the San Marino country name together with the text 1519 Leonardo 2019.
