Product Description

History was written on July 11, 1969. It was the first time that a human set foot on the moon! This is not just a trip to the city! The journey to the moon is no less than 363,345 kilometres - the circumference of the earth is 40,075 kilometres. It was NASA, the space program of the United States, that made this manned moon-landing a reality. The first man to set foot on the moon was Neil Armstrong, the photo was taken by his fellow astronaut Buzz Aldrin. The first rocket that landed on the moon was however, not from NASA but from the Soviet Union under the name Loena, but this was an unmanned flight. Only a total of twelve men, all American astronauts, have ever set foot on the moon. The designer of these rockets is rocket scientist Werner von Braun, this man developed the so-called V2 rockets in the 2nd World War, but luckily this development took too long. This year is the 50th anniversary of this first manned landing on the moon and that is why San Marino has decided to issue a special 5 Euro coin. The face of the coin shows an astronaut fully dressed in his space suit and helmet as protection from the conditions on the moon. The year 1969 and 2019 are also shown. In addition to these dates is the text 'PRIMO UOMO SULTA LUNA'. The reverse of the coin shows the coat of arms of San Marino encircled by the text 'REPUBBLICA DI SAN MARINO'. The coin is struck with a special stamp to the highest quality, i.e. Proof. The circulation of this beautiful coin is only 3, 500!
