Product Description
2023 San Marino 5 Euro Silver 'Animal World'. Every plant and animal fulfils its role on this planet, creating and maintaining our fragile ecosystem. Unfortunately, that ecosystem is deteriorating rapidly and that many animals are becoming extinct and plants are disappearing from our beautiful earth. Honey bees make a major contribution to our ecosystem, something that is hardly thought about. Nearly 80% of crop pollination is done by bees and bumblebees! San Marino protects the nature of its country by law and is very careful with its flora and fauna. The obverse of the coin shows an Italian 'Cave Salamander' (Speleomantes Italicus). A small amphibian that has no lungs. It only comes out on cool, damp and rainy nights to hunt small prey with its long, extendable tongue. This brown Italian Cave Salamander with reddish spots is rarely seen and is threatened with extinction. The three towers of San Marino, which are La Guaita, La Cesta and Il Montale, are depicted on the reverse, together with the country name REPUBBLICA DI SAN MARINO (San Marino). The coins are packaged in a printed coin holder.
