A small amphibian that has no lungs. It only comes out on cool, damp and rainy nights to hunt small prey with its long, extendable tongue. This brown Italian Cave Salamander with reddish spots is rarely seen and is threatened with extinction. The three towers of San Marino, which are La Guaita, La Cesta and Il Montale, are depicted on the reverse, together with the country name REPUBBLICA DI SAN MARINO (San Marino).
