Product Description
The year 1968 is also called the year of the æPrague SpringÆ. In the then Czechoslovakia, the situation arose that more democratization of the communist regime was strived for. Czechoslovakia was at the forefront of the Communist Satellite States of the Soviet Union. In August there was an invasion of Czechoslovakia from the various Warsaw Pact countries in which the æPrague SpringÆ was brutally crushed and the reform process was stopped. This led to great global outrage. In the year 2018 it is 50 years since the Prague Spring took place and to commemorate this, Slovakia has issued a special 10 Euro coin. On the face of the coin the number 68 (from 1968) is depicted with barbed wire over it. At the top of the coin is the Coat of Arms of Slovakia and at the bottom is the country name Slovensko (Slovakia) together with the year 2018. Below this is the value indication of 10 Euro. On the reverse of the coin a bare-chested man stands in front of a tank of the occupiers. This image is superimposed on the number 50 along with the word Vyrocie (birthday). At the top of the coin is the text August 1968.
