Product Description
This is the 2020 Slovakian 10 Euro coin with 'Stefan Banic' as its subject. Stefan Banic (1870-1941) came from a poor family of stonemasons. After training as a stonemason he left for the USA in 1907. He was extremely interested in everything related to aviation and he started developing a Parachute. In 1913 he was able to test his parachute himself - he jumped off a 15-storey building! In World War I the US Army even started to use the Parachute, which received its patent in 1914, (Number 1108484). Banic is not regarded as the inventor of the parachute, but as the inventor of a workable parachute. Banic returned to Slovakia in 1920 where he died in 1941. To commemorate that Stefan Banic was born 150 years ago, Slovakia has decided to issue this 10 Euro coin. The face of the coin shows the design of his parachute, with the year 2020 and the country name, Slovensko (Slovakia), below. On the reverse of the coin is a portrait of Stefan Banic with the denomination of 10 Euro on the right. The coin is packaged in a coin capsule and comes with an informative brochure.
