Product Description

Slovakia has issued a 20 Euro with the theme 'The Pol'ana Mountains'. The Pol'ana mountain range is a relatively small range located in the middle of Slovakia and is also known as the 'Volcanic heart of Slovakia'. The Pol'ana Mountains contain one of the best preserved extinct volcanoes in Europe. The Pol'ana Mountains mainly consist of native spruce forests including exceptional flora and fauna. The Pol'ana Mountains gained UNESCO status in 1981. It is striking that areas that used to be deforested now form precious meadows and clearings, where many endangered birds nest and where many rare orchids and other plant species occur. On the face of this coin two fighting deer are depicted, with six hinds in the background. The left side of the coin shows a rock formation of volcanic origin. At the top of the coin is the value indication of 20 Euro whilst at the bottom of the coin is the country name SLOVENSKO (Slovakia) together with the year of issue, 2020. The reverse of the coin shows the Bystrý Potok waterfall. Depicted on the left is the very protected zinc violet (viola lutea sudetica). On the right is the text 'CHRÁNENÁ KRAJINNÁ OBLAST' (protected natural area).
