Product Description
100 years ago, in 1920, the Spanish Legion (La Legión) was established as the Spanish Foreign Legion. It is still an elite part of the Spanish army that is still regularly used. This unit used to consist mainly of foreigners known for their iron discipline. The Spanish legion used to be stationed mainly in West Africa. Since the decolonization of Africa the Spanish Legion has consisted exclusively of Spaniards. In addition, the Spanish legion is also involved in one of the most important traditions in Spain, 'Semana Santa' (Easter Week). During this religious ceremony believers publicly display their faith, also known as processions. On the obverse of the coin is the coat of arms of the Spanish legion. At the top of the coin the text 'La Legión' (The Legion) is displayed. Their battle cry 'LEGIONARIOS A LUCHAR, LEGIONARIOS A MORIR' (legionaries to fight, legionaries to die) is displayed in a semicircle around the lower part of the coin. On the reverse of the coin is an image of the King of Spain with his name 'FELIPE VI REY DE ESPAÑA' (Felipe VI of Spain) shown above the portrait. The year of issue is shown at the bottom of the coin. The coin is presented in a beautiful cassette. It is the first coin in Spain to be sold out within a day!
