Product Description
The Spanish mint honours the first circumnavigation of the world by issuing no fewer than four different 10 Euro coins, one per year. This is the third coin in this series of four. 239 men left Seville led by Juan Sebastián Elcano in 1519 to sail around the world! The fleet consisted of 5 huge sailing ships. Only 18 of the 239 men survived the gruelling voyage. Only Elcano's sailing ship, the Victoria, managed to complete the journey. This sailing trip is still known today as one of the bravest voyages in the history of Spain. The face of the coin shows Juan Sebastián Elcano arriving in the Moluccas (Spice Islands). At the bottom of this 10 Euro coin is the text 'V CENTENARIO DE LA VUELTA AL MUNDO' (500th anniversary circumnavigation of the World). On the left is the mint mark of Spain. On the reverse of the coin is a portrait of Juan Sebastián Elcano and a sculptural work called 'Carlos V'. At the top is the country name 'España' (Spain) and the year of issue, 2021. The coin is presented in a beautiful case and is delivered with a certificate of authenticity.
