Product Description

Spain 50 Euro 2021 'Battle of Lepanto'. Spain has issued a 50 Euro coin with the theme 'Battle of Lepanto'. This coin weighs no less than 168.75 grams. The Naval Battle of Lepanto (25th May 1571) was between the Ottoman Empire and the Papal States - a union of fleets from Spain, Naples, Sicily, Venice, Genoa, Malta and Parma, with Juan of Austria as its commander in chief. The fleet consisted of 200 galleys, 6 galleasses and more than 100 auxiliary sailing vessels. This naval battle lasted only four hours, during which the Ottoman fleet was completely destroyed. The Battle of Lepanto was one of the greatest naval battles of all time, involving the last use of galley ships. Galley ships were sailing ships that had both sails and oarsmen. On the face of the coin is a detail of a drawing, made by Vicente Urrabieta, showing several ships in battle. Furthermore, the text 'BATALLA DE LEPANTO' (Battle of Lepanto) and the value indication of 50 Euro are shown. On the reverse of the coin are images of Alvaro de Bazan, Felipe II and Juan of Austria. The country name ESPANA (Spain) is also displayed together with the year 2021. This coin, of no less than 168.75 grams, is presented in a beautiful case and is supplied with a certificate of authenticity.
