Vatican 50 Cent 2018 UNC

This is the 2018 Vatican 50 Cent coin. The Vatican has been issuing Euro coins since the introduction of the Euro in 2002. The incumbent Pope is normally portrayed on the coins of the Vatican. The present Pope, Francis I, has decided that his image no longer needs to be on the coins of the Vatican. Since the year 2017 his image has been replaced by the Papal Coat of Arms. The Papal Crest is a Coat of Arms that Francis has been using since 1991 when he became Bishop of Argentina. At the top of the crest is a mitre flanked by Peter's two keys. In the centre of the crest are the letters IHS of Christ with a cross above them. Furthermore, three black nails are depicted. The star refers to Mary and the grass refers to Joseph. At the bottom of the crest is the Pope's motto 'Miserande Atque Elegendo' (Chosen by Grace). Around the Papal Coat of Arms, which is positioned in the centre of this 2018 Vatican 50 cent coin, is the country name 'Citta del Vaticano'. The year 2018 is shown at the bottom right of the coin.
