Vatican Coincard 50 Cent 2022 No. 13

Since the year 2010 the Vatican has issued a coin card mounted with a 50 Cent Vatican coin. The 2022 Coincard is number 13 of this series of coincards. The special thing about this coin card is that there is no longer an image of the Pope on the coin. Pope Francis has decided that his image should no longer appear on Vatican coins. From 2017 it has been decided to display the Papal coat of arms on the coins of the Vatican instead. The papal coat of arms is a crest based on a shield that he has been using since 1991 when he took office as Bishop in Argentina. At the top of the coat of arms is a mitre with the 2 keys of Peter. In the centre are the letters IHS with a cross above. Below that, are three black nails. The star refers to Mary and the grass refers to Joseph. At the bottom of the coin is the Pope's motto which is 'miserando atque eligendo' (chosen by grace). The coin is mounted in a coincard upon which Pope Francis looks to the right towards the coin. The name of this official 2022 No 13 coincard is also shown. On the back of the coincard, among other things, the technical data of the coin and the coincard are printed.
