2023 Vatican 50 Cent Coincard No. 14. Since 2010 the Vatican has issued a Coincard containing a Vatican 50 Cent coin. The 2023 Coincard is number 14 of this series. The special thing about this coincard is that there is no longer an image of the Pope on the coin. Pope Francis has decided, in his simplicity, that his image should no longer be visible on the coins of the Vatican. From 2017 it was decided to depict the Papal coat of arms on the Vatican coins. The Papal coat of arms is a crest based on a shield that he has used since 1991 when he took office as bishop in Argentina. At the top of the coat of arms is a mitre with the 2 keys of Peter. In the centre are the letters IHS surmounted by a cross, below that are three black nails. The star refers to Mary and the grass refers to Joseph. At the bottom of the coin is the Pope's motto. This is 'miserando atque eligendo' (chosen by grace). The coin is mounted in a blue coin card where Pope Francis is depicted on the front. The name of this official coincard, No . 14 of the year 2023, is also shown. On the back of the coincard, among other things, the technical data of the coin and the coincard are printed.
