Product Description
Vatican UNC 2021. This is the complete 2021 Vatican UNC set. The Vatican has been issuing Euro coins since the introduction of the Euro in 2002. Normally the current Pope is portrayed on the coins of the Vatican. The current Pope, Francis I, has decided in his simplicity that he no longer needs to be portrayed on the coins of the Vatican. As of the year 2017 his image has been replaced by the Papal Coat of Arms. The Papal Coat of Arms is a crest that he has used since 1991 when he took office as Bishop of Argentina. At the top of the coat of arms is a mitre with the two keys of St. Peter. Centred on the crest are the letters IHS of Christ surmounted by a cross. Furthermore, three black nails are shown. The star refers to Mary and the grass refers to Joseph. At the bottom of the coat of arms is the Pope's motto 'miserando atque eligendo' (called by compassion). The 2021 Vatican UNC set consists of the entire series of Euro coins from the Vatican, i.e. the 2021 coins from the1 cent up to and including the Normal 2 Euro. The Papal Coat of Arms is depicted centrally on the coins, encircled by the country name 'Citta del Vaticano'. The year 2021 is shown on the bottom right of the coin.
