Product Description
On January 7, 1916, the famous Estonian chess player Paul Keres was born. As a reminder of this 100th birthday Estonia has issued a special 2 Euro coin æPaul KeresÆ. Paul Keres was one of the best chess players of all time. From the year 1950 he was a Grandmaster. Because Russia has long occupied Estonia, Paul Keres played chess for Russia. Paul Keres was called the æeternal secondÆ because he was never World Champion. In 1975 Paul Keres died suddenly of a cardiac arrest. On the coin Paul Keres is portrayed thinking and looking at a chess board. At the bottom of the coin are some chess pieces like the King, the Queen, the Knight and the Pawn. These pieces are also shown very nicely upside down to symbolize both sides of the chessboard. At the top left of the coin is the text "Paul Keres". On the left side of the coin the country name EESTI (Estonia) and the year 2016 are shown. The quality of the coin is UNC (Uncirculated) and the issue of this coin is 495,000 copies.
