In the context of the Finland 100 program û the celebration of the 100 years of the Republic of Finland, Finland has issued a series of 8 coins with, as their subject, its former presidents. In 2016 four coins will be issued and four coins will be issued in the 100th year, 2017. On the fourth coin of this series is the fourth president of Finland Kyösti Kallio (1873-1940). Kallio was a member of the Finnish Agrarian Party and was president from 1937 to 1940. He had a long political career and only later became president. He was a moderate man, a major strategist with a strong long-term vision. His favourite food was stewed reindeer meat. In the year 1940 he became ill and had to leave the presidency and shortly afterwards Kyösti Kallio died. On the face of the coin is an image of Kyösti Kallio. At the top of the coin is his name, birth year and year of death. The reverse of the coins of this series is the same, a landscape with a city, seen as from an open book.
