Product Description
In 2016 Germany released a 5 Euro coin with a blue plastic polymer ring for the first time. In 2019 Germany has now released a 10 Euro coin with a white plastic polymer ring for the first time. The development of this coin has included many facets in that the plastic must be heat and cold resistant, water must not have any influence on the coin and the polymer ring should not be affected by UV radiation or chemicals, etc.The European Union has also given instructions to incorporate plastic into a coin in order to build in even more collateral to prevent counterfeiting. The theme of the coin is the movement of the air and the coin is the first in a three-part series. There will be one issued per year 2019, 2020 and 2021. On the face of the coin a paraglider is depicted flying between the mountain peaks. Interestingly, paragliding often involves searching for so-called thermals. These are warm air currents in the mountains. When a paraglider enters a thermal he can sometimes shoot hundreds of metres into the air. In the outer ring of the reverse of the coin are the 12 stars of Europe along with the text Bundesrepublik Deutschland (Federal Republic of Germany) and the value indication of 10 Euro. The German eagle shown on the reverse of the coin is in harmony with the paraglider and so fits well with this theme! The year 2019 is also shown. The coin has been minted at the five different German mints.
