Product Description

The second special 20 euro coin that Germany has issued in 2018 has as its theme the 275th anniversary of the Gewandhausorchester (Garment House Orchestra). Hundreds of years ago there were many Laeken (cloth) producers. Cloths etc. were made from wool. In Leipzig there was also a Laeken building where the production took place on the first floor. On the second floor a Concert Hall was created, which was given the name æGarment House OrchestraÆ. The orchestra was founded on March 11, 1743 thus, in 2018, it has existed for 275 years. The orchestra is still one of the most prestigious orchestras in the world to this day. To commemorate the fact that the orchestra has existed for 275 years Germany has issued a special silver coin with a nominal value of 20 Euro. On the face of the coin the arms of a conductor are depicted holding a conductor's baton in his hand. Around these arms are the names of dozens of world famous composers. At the top of the coin is the logo "275 Jahre Gewandhaus orchester" (275 years of Garment House Orchestra). On the reverse of the coin the German Eagle is shown stylistically. Under the eagle are the 12 stars of Europe. Around the outer border of the coin the country name Bundesrepublik Deutschland (Federal Republic of Germany) is located at the top, along with the letter of the Karlsruhe mint ("G"), the year 2018 and the value of 20 Euro. The Latin inscription around the edge of the coin is æRES SEVERA VERUM GAUDIUMÆ (True joy is a serious matter).
