Product Description

The Battle of Salamis happened in the year 480 BC* and was a naval battle in which the advance of the Persian Empire, led by Xerxes, was countered by the Greeks who were led by Themistocles. * BC, 'Before Christ', is now known as BCE, 'Before the Common Era'. Despite the fact that the Persians had a sea fleet that was four times the size of the Greek fleet, the Greeks were able to survive. Due to the narrow strait, the Persians were unable to manoeuvre completely, while the Greeks were in the most strategic spot. The Athenian general Themistocles had thought this out perfectly. As a result, the Greeks lost only 40 ships while the Persians lost more than 200. The Battle of Salamis is considered one of the greater victories of the time. On the obverse of the coin is an image of Themistocles, his name is displayed in Greek. The year of issue, 2020, is also shown. On the reverse of the coin is the country name 'Greek Republic' in Greek, along with the value indication of 10 Euro. In the centre is the coat of arms of Greece. The coin is presented in a deluxe package and is supplied with a numbered certificate.
