Greece 5 Euro 2020 Iris Hellenica

Greece has issued a 5 Euro coin with the theme Iris Hellenica. The genus of plants containing no less than 5,837 different varieties 23.1% of which are endemic, which means that they only occur in Greece. This is because Greece consists of about 6000 islands with many islands having unique plant species. The Iris Hellenica is a small herbaceous plant that grows on rocky limestones of Greece. The plant grows only on Peloponnese, on the slopes of Mount Saito and on the slopes of Mount Helmos. It is a very rare plant, of which less than 1000 grow in Greece. The stems reach a height of about 25 centimetres when they reach the first flower. The Iris Hellenica often consists of two to four flowers! On the face of the coin the Iris Hellenica is depicted in its original colours. Furthermore, the year of issue 2020 is shown, and the name of the plant is shown on the right. On the reverse of the coin is an uncoloured image of the Iris Hellenica. The coat of arms of Greece and the value indication of 5 Euro are also dis played. The coin is presented in a beautiful package.
