Product Description

Antonio was an Italian designer and the official inventor of the telephone. He was born in the Italian town of Florence and studied at the university there. He moved to America in 1850 to further develop his invention - the telephone. An explosion left Antonio Meucci in the hospital. His wife then sold all his prototypes which he tried to get back after his recovery. However, his wife did not know that Alexander Graham Bell had bought these prototypes. When Bell patented the telephone, in 1876, Antonio Meucci was furious. He filed a protest with the United States Patent Office, an event that had never happened before. Bell had stolen Meucci's ideas but the US government did nothing about it. It was not until the year 2002 that Meucci was proved to be right. On the face of the coin is an image of Antonio Meucci with the telephone that he invented depicted in the background. On the reverse of the coin is a vintage telephone from the 1960's that was operated with a rotary dial. Furthermore, the text '150 DEL TELEFONO' (150 years of the telephone), the value indication of 5 Euro and the year of issue, 2021, are shown. The coin is mounted in a beautiful Coin card which is itself packed in a beautiful blister.
