2023 Italy 5 Euro coin 'Abruzzo National Park'. Italy has issued a special 5 Euro coin with the theme of the Abruzzo National Park. The park was founded over 100 years ago, in 1922, and covers almost 500 square kilometres! The park is home to large predators such as the brown bear, wolves, lynx, wild cats and foxes. In addition, the park has more than 2,000 different species of plants! The Marsican brown bear is highly endangered and only 50 bears live in this national park. The obverse of the coin depicts the Marsican brown bear, with an Apennine Chamois and a Golden Eagle in the background. The very special orchid, the Venus slipper, is also shown. This orchid only blooms every 2 years! On the reverse of the coin is the logo of the Abruzzo National Park, surrounded by a number of beech leaves. The year of issue, 2023, is also displayed together with the value indication of 5 Euro.
